Multi-modal therapist
I use techniques from many different theories, philosophies and areas of psychology. Mainly I use cognitive-behavioral therapy, post-modern, psychodynamic, art therapy and action-oriented therapy, all steeped in neuroscience and research. Counseling is customized for you, rather than a one-sized-fits-all approach.
Action-Oriented Therapy
This type of therapy focuses on taking action rather than simply talking about your history over and over again. Obviously, there are good reasons for going into your past (e.g. figuring out how your brain was developed and how this affects you currently, discovering how you learned about relationships and how this dynamic plays out in your relationships in the here and now, etc.). There are other times when the reason you do something is not as important as learning to take steps to change. Action-Oriented Therapy is a dynamic, solution-focused method that may help you to change your life for the better and get results sooner.
Scientific methods
In my practice, I base therapy on research. I have a passion for using neuroscience and other current research as a springboard to developing innovative interventions to help you feel relief more quickly. For example, one goal of therapy is “neural integration,” which means building bridges and pathways between different parts of the brain to promote resiliency and mental health. I will explain easy-to-understand workings of the brain, and how you can use that information to feel better.
Art Therapy
Most of my clients choose talk therapy; however, I am also a Registered Clinical Art Therapist. No skills are needed to use art therapy, and no one will see the art you create. The magic lies in the process of making the art and what comes up while you are creating, not the actual product. Clinical neuroscience backs up this method as well. Art accesses parts of the brain where emotions and memories are processed and stored. So, if you are ever feeling “stuck” and cannot figure out what is going on with you through language alone, perhaps this method can help. Feel free to call me if you have other questions about art therapy.
Free 25 minute consultation
Choosing a therapist is an important decision. You are welcome to contact me for a free 25 minute consultation. This can be done over the phone or in person. This meeting is not therapy, per se, but a chance for us to meet so we can decide if we are a good match for counseling. 626-376-3098, or email me here.
Saturday and evening hours available. MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express accepted.
